After School Programs Purpose: To provide enrichment experiences to the students at Pleasant View. Activities: Over the last few years at other schools, the PTA has teamed up with the AEA, the Bettendorf Library, the Figge Art Museum, the Family Museum, and ISU to offer some of the following program-types; Art, Book Club, Chess, Leadership, Science and Lego-Robotics. The class offerings vary each year. Dates of Activities: Weekdays Eligible grades: K-6
Birdies for Charity Purpose: To raise funds Activities: One volunteer will pick up pledge forms and type/copy a letter to parents. The forms and letter are distributed, collected, and submitted to Birdies for Charity during May. Parents make a pledge per birdie made at that summer's John Deere Classic golf tournament. Birdies for Charity handles all data entry, invoicing, and money collection. They will send two checks to the volunteer sometime in November. Pleasant View receives all of the paid pledges as well as an additional 10% from the John Deere Classic Charitable Foundation. Date of Activity: Spring Eligible grades: K-6
Birthday Book Club Purpose: To provide a unique way to honor a child's birthday and make a donation to the school library at the same time. Activities: During the month of your child's birthday, he or she will receive a letter offering you the Birthday Book Club opportunity. If you are interested, your child may bring a minimum donation of $5 to the library. Your child may select a book form the birthday book shelf to donate to the library collection. The book may be taken home and read before it is placed in the library. The book will be marked with a bookplate bearing the donor's name and birthday. In sponsoring the program, the PTA helps supplement the difference between the donation and the cost of the book. Book Fair Purpose: To raise funds for the library and provide students and teachers the opportunity to add Scholastic Books to their collections. Activities: Volunteers from the PTA work at the book fair for the Teacher Preview, Student Preview, and Book Fair. Dates of Activities: Two times a year, in the fall and spring and held during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Eligible grades: K-6
Coupon Book Purpose: To raise money for the PTA Activities: Coordinate sale of books Date of Activity: Fall
Display Case Purpose: Keep up on all the current school and PTA events by stopping by the glass display showcases in the lobby. Date of Activity: Throughout the year
Fall Fest Purpose: Our largest fundraising event of the year. The profits generated from this family fun festival will go right back to the teachers at Pleasant View to choose instructional materials and classroom supplies that will benefit our students. Activities: Carnival games with awesome prizes, raffle, kids raffle, silent auction, inflatable jumpers, cakewalk, funky mart (store where kids can buy fun items), and food. Date of Activity: October/November Eligible grades: All school/family event
Hospitality/School Receptions Purpose: To foster a sense of family within the Pleasant View community. Activities: The Pleasant View community is invited to attend special events. Events include Meet & Greet, Grandparent’s/Special Visitors Day, senior walk, and an end of year retirement reception. Date of Activity: Throughout the school year
Kindergarten Registration Purpose: To welcome incoming Kindergarten students and their families to the Pleasant View community as well as to provide key information about the Kindergarten program. Activities: Incoming Kindergarten students spend a portion of the event in a Kindergarten classroom with a Kindergarten teacher, ride a school bus, and enjoy a snack. Meanwhile parents are able to attend an information meeting. Date of Activity: February/March Eligible grades: Incoming Kindergarten students
Movie Night Purpose: A movie night planned for families to have a night out with their kids and to get to know other families in a relaxing environment. Activities: Movie Night is a very popular family event. Join us for a FREE movie shown on a huge screen in the Pleasant View Gym. Popcorn and water are available for less than $1, but you may also bring your own refreshments. Date of Activity: January Eligible grades: K-6 Pajama Drive Purpose: To help charitable organizations throughout the Quad Cities. Activities: Students from each class K-5 may choose to donate new pajamas. The committee will distribute them to organization in the Quad Cities. Dates of Activities: Collection dates are for two weeks after Thanksgiving. Eligible grades: K-5
Product Redemption Purpose: To raise funds to support school programs Activities: Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Soup Labels, and Tyson Food Labels are collected and redeemed for cash and points. See all of the eligible items for collection on the “Product Redemption” part of our website at www.pleasantviewpta.com. Date of Activity: Throughout the school year Eligible grades: K-6
Reflections Purpose: To provide opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing the community awareness on the importance of the arts in education. Activities: There are six different categories in which the students can enter: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Film/Video Production. Each entry must be done entirely by the student, and it must be their interpretation of the theme. Student works are critiqued against others in the same grade division. This allows judging of artworks by appropriate developmental age and skill levels. The four grade divisions are as follows: Primary: Preschool - Grade 2 Intermediate: Grades 3 - 5 Middle/Junior: Grades 6 - 8 Senior: Grades 9 -12 Up to four pieces from each category will be selected to represent each school at the state level. Winners at the state level are submitted to the National PTA. Date of Activity: The deadline for submission of entries varies each year, but will typically be sometime in October. There is an awards night held in January to recognize participation and accomplishments of all students who submitted work. Eligible grades: K-High School
Room Parent Volunteers Purpose: Room Parents are volunteers who sign up at the beginning of the year to support their student's teacher throughout the school year. They manage and organize volunteers for the classroom parties (Halloween, Valentine's Day, etc.), organize a gift basket to be auctioned off at the Pleasant View Fall Fest, and organize gifts for the teacher, if desired (birthday, holiday, Teacher Appreciation Week and end-of-year gift). Look for sign-up sheets at Meet and Greet if you are interested in being a Room Parent or helping out in your student's classroom.
School Supplies Purpose: To provide families with the opportunity to purchase pre-packaged school supplies at a reduced cost and without the hassle of hunting down everything on the supply list. Activities: Families are given the opportunity in the spring to pre-order school supplies for next year. School supplies will be in your child’s classroom at Meet & Greet. Orders are done online. Date of Activity: Order forms are sent out in April/May for Grades 1-6 and in February/March for Kindergarten students. School supplies are available at Meet & Greet Night in early August. Eligible grades: K-6
Sixth Grade Committee Purpose: To plan activities to raise funds to purchase a class gift for the school. Activities: Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, Memory Book, 6th Grade Party Date of Activity: Throughout the year
Staff Appreciation Purpose: To demonstrate to the Pleasant View Staff how much they are valued and appreciated. Activities: Monthly treat days as well as week-long events during Teacher Appreciation Week are organized to show the staff how much the parents and students appreciate what they do for our students every day. Dates of Activities: Monthly & Teacher Appreciation Week in early May

Variety Show Purpose: To showcase the talents of our students and staff. Do you play an instrument? Sing? Dance? Tell Jokes? Do magic? Act? Anything else that’s unique? We want you to showcase those talents at our Variety Show! Date of Activity: Spring Eligible grades: K-6
Visiting Author Purpose: To give students the opportunity to meet an author or illustrator and learn about the writing and illustrating process. Activity: Every other year the district selects an author or illustrator to spend a day at each elementary school. The PTA will arrange for families to pre-purchase books from the author/illustrator and have the copies autographed. This is not a fundraiser for the school. Date of Activity: One day; depends on the author/illustrator’s schedule Eligible grades: K-6
Walk-A-Thon Purpose: To promote our commitment to wellness, and to raise funds needed to help our great school! Activities: Volunteers from the PTA organize the walk. Students walk for 30 minutes outside on the track. The number of laps is marked for the students; however, donations are for one flat donation, not per lap. Date of Activity: May Eligible grades: K-6
World Culture Night Purpose: To celebrate the diverse cultures found in countries throughout the world as well as in our school. Activities: Showcases dances, games, food to share, etc. from the different countries. Both parents and students participate. Date of Activity: Spring Eligible grades: K-6
Yearbook Purpose: Our yearbook committee is busy all year taking photos in the classrooms and at school functions. At the end of the year all of their hard work pays off when the yearbook is published and they get to see all of the smiling faces of the students as they thumb through their yearbook and search for their own photos. If you are a parent or teacher who has photos you would like to share with our yearbook committee, please contact our Chair. They are always looking for photos! Date of Activity: Throughout the year
